All Eyez on me

All Eyez on me

Tupac Amaru Shakur was way more then a rapper. He was a poet, a scholar, an actor, a revolutionist, an intellectual, a movement. I think my mother bought me my first 2pac album, (R U still down?) when I was ten or eleven. Over the next years, I persistently listened, not very interested in other futile main stream rap music. Tupac had a genuine message, a candid essence. A communique that would carry on over twenty years after his demise. (Fingers crossed he’s in Cuba.) Tupac was there for me when no one living was. I didn’t have the advantage of living wealthy, my parents struggled to provide for me what they never could fathom growing up in Baltimore City. I was a rose who grew from the concrete. I’m a soldier, a dreamer, a believer. I credit 2pac tremendously for paving the way for a generation with no hope. He thrived where he was set up for unquestionable defeat. Contrary to rappers today (I’m not saying no names) that have never had to watch half their friends die at a early age, 2pac is indisputably a unparalleled survivor. Through utmost indigence Tupac became prosperous. In honor of the late greats birthday, I compelled a list of just a few lyrics and quotes that have inspirited me. If this incentivizes just one person, 2pac lives on indefinitely.

1. Words of Wisdom

Conquer the enemy with education

Protect yourself, reach for what you want to do

Know thyself, teach by what we’ve been through
2. Better Dayz

I’d love to see the block in peace

With no more dealers and crooked cops, the only way to stop the beast

And only we can change It’s up to us to clean up the streets, it ain’t the same

Too many murders, too many funerals and too many tears

Just seen another brother buried plus I knew him for years
3. Me Against The World

Through every dark night, there’s a bright day after that

So no matter how hard it get

Stick your chest out, keep your head up, and handle it
4. Hold On Be Strong

God bless the child that can hold his own

You know? You got to stand strong

And when these bustas try to knock you out your place

Hold on, and be strong

You stand there to they face
5. Baby don’t Cry

Thinkin’ with your brains blown that would make the pain go

No! You got to find a way to survive

‘Cause they win when your soul dies
6. “There’s no way that Michael Jackson or whoever Jackson should have a million thousand droople billion dollars and then there’s people starving. There’s no way! There’s no way that these people should own planes and there people don’t have houses. Apartments. Shacks. Drawers. Pants! I know you’re rich. I know you got 40 billion dollars, but can you just keep it to one house? You only need ONE house. And if you only got two kids, can you just keep it to two rooms? I mean why have 52 rooms and you know there’s somebody with no room?! It just don’t make sense to me. It don’t.”
7. Brenda’s Got a Baby

Just ’cause your in the ghetto doesn’t mean you can’t grow
8. Changes

I got love for my brother but we can never go nowhere

unless we share with each other we gotta start makin’ changes

learn to see me as a brother ‘stead of two distant strangers.
9.”Every day, I’m standing outside trying to sing my way in: We are hungry, please let us in We are hungry, please let us in. After about a week that song is gonna change to: We hungry, we need some food. After two, three weeks, it’s like: Give me the food Or I’m breaking down the door. After a year you’re just like: I’m picking the lock. Coming through the door blasting.”
10. “Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside while still alive. Never surrender.”
11. Thugz Mansion

No one knows my struggle, they only see the trouble

Not knowin’ it’s hard to carry on when no one loves you

Picture me inside the misery of poverty

No man alive has ever witnessed struggles I survived

Prayin’ hard for better days, promise to hold on
12. Keep Ya Head Up

‘Cause I think we can make it; in fact, I’m sure

And if you fall, stand tall and come back for more
13.

“Where There is a will

there is a will

to search and discover

a better day
Where a positive heart

is all you need

to rise beyond

and succeed
Where young minds grow

and respect each other

based on their deeds

and not their color
when times are dim

say as I say

“Where there’s a will

there’s a way!”
